BREATHE
Artist: Motherslug
Animated music video

Role: Director & Producer
Breathe is an animated music video developed from an initial concept by Cameron Crichton, frontman of Motherslug, around transformation. Building on that starting point, I helped shape it into a character-driven story about self-acceptance, vulnerability, and change.
Challenge
The main challenge was designing a central character who could transform into a raging beast while still feeling appealing and emotionally relatable. The project also required balancing drama and comedy within a simple visual approach shaped by budget and production constraints.
My Contribution
I led the project from story development through storyboard, animatic, layout, animation supervision, and final compositing. My role focused on turning the core concept into a clear visual narrative while guiding the production toward a cohesive final piece.
Impact
The video became the band’s most successful release, reaching nearly 150,000 views on YouTube — almost 30 times more than their second most-watched video. It helped draw new attention to the band and showed how a strong animated concept could expand the reach of the music.
"Doncel made the whole process, from concept to final render, a blast. Communication was smooth, and he totally got our vision. Now we're stoked with a video that rocks as hard as our music!"
