La Invitación is a hand-drawn 2D music video with a strong anime influence, following a woman through a futuristic megacity as she tries to figure out where she belongs.
The project brought together more than 40 artists across Latin America, all working remotely to build one pretty ambitious world.
The challenge was keeping everyone pointed in the same direction while feedback came in from the agency, label and artist. My job was to keep the visual language consistent, the production moving, and the quality from slipping as the project scaled up.
I oversaw the project across art, animation, ink & paint and compositing, working closely with each area lead to keep everything pointed at the same creative target. A big part of my role was also keeping communication clean between teams, so feedback could move fast and decisions didn’t get stuck along the way.
We started shaping scenes as early as the animatic stage, looking for ways to make them hit harder without making them unnecessarily painful to produce.
Clear workflows and trusted area leads helped the team move faster, solve problems where they happened, and keep the whole thing visually consistent.
The video passed 40 million views, hit YouTube Trending, and landed at a pretty important moment in Kenia Os’s growth as an artist.
For us, it was also proof that a large, fully distributed Latin American animation team could pull off something this ambitious and make it work.
