Social-first animated content for Instagram launch

Spotify took Today’s Top Hits beyond the app and onto Instagram, with short animated pieces built around some of the artists featured on the playlist.
The idea was pretty simple: make something that felt at home on social media, while still feeling like both Spotify and the artist it was built around.
The tricky part was giving each artist their own visual world while keeping everything unmistakably Spotify.
The pieces were short, timelines moved fast, and there were plenty of eyes on the work, so the process had to stay clear and flexible from the start.
I directed the art and animation for one of the launch pieces, building on Bad Bunny’s album world and adapting it into something that worked in short-form motion.
I also worked closely with Tunjayork, Dreambear and a small specialized team to keep the piece moving and aligned with Spotify along the way.
The work included character design exploration rooted in album iconography, background design to establish mood and consistency, and final animated moments built for quick readability and impact. The focus was on creating something bold, clear, and social-first rather than overly complex.
The piece helped kick off Today’s Top Hits on Instagram and push the playlist’s visual identity beyond Spotify itself. It ended up reaching millions of views and getting strong engagement on the platform.
